Matthew – 47 Weeks Old

December 6th, 2011 | Posted by Andie in Matthew

Matthew had a very busy weekend. There were lots of new faces and lots of things happening, but he handled it so well. Mum and Dad had a couple of friends over for dinner on Friday night, which wasn’t too bad. Matthew was a bit tired but pretty happy to wander around and chat away. On Saturday we had Jacqui and Jason’s engagement party up in Snells Beach. Matthew slept the whole way up so was all refreshed and ready to go when we got up there. He had lots of cuddles with new people and as long as he could occasionally come find Rob or myself he was quite happy. He did have a sleep in his buggy before he even got down to the beach so didn’t get a chance to play in the sea or at the beach, but that gave him the energy to keep going to see new people in the evening. Matthew and I caught up with some old work friends on Sunday over lunch and then had Matthews great grandparents for dinner on Sunday.
So yes, as you can see it was very busy. But for most of it Matthew was his happy, chatty and moving self – not sitting down for too long at any given point. It’s starting to become that season though, always something on. I just need to make sure Matthew does get some downtime each day and longer downtime during the week when we are just at home.

I was able to get out for dinner with the girls from coffee group last week. We all left the babies at home and went out to a restaurant in Howick. So we spent the majority of our time away from our babies talking about our babies. We are all just such proud mummies. It was so nice to catch up with them though and I even treated myself to a couple of glasses of wine.
Matthew was very well behaved at home for Rob though. He had his first bottle of formula (A couple of months back I decided that expressing was too much work and Matthew would live if he had to be given formula when I was out, though up until last week he hadn’t needed it) and took 120ml before falling asleep in Rob’s arms. No fuss apparently, which was lucky for Rob. When I got home Matthew had woken back up and Rob was having a cuddle with him on the couch, but as soon as he saw me he was climbing out of Rob’s cuddle to come see me, which was so nice. Good for a bit of me time but makes me feel great that Matthew misses me so much.

I tried a mini experiment with Matthew on Friday. I had to pop into Sylvia Park for 30 minutes and they have a free crèche that you can drop off your kids at for an hour or so. And seeing Matthew responses really well to playgroup etc I thought, oh, it’s only 30 minutes, he should be fine. So I signed him in, stayed for a few minutes till he wandered off on his own and left. I only got about 15 minutes worth of stuff done before I got a text to say he was upset and could I return. Matthew was very grateful to see me, clinged on through some sobs while I cuddled him. He’d lasted for about 5 minutes before he noticed I wasn’t there then got a little bit upset. So we had a cuddle, bit of a feed and went and finished the shopping together. Will probably try again in the not near future, for now I’ll just take him shopping with me.
