Matthew – 14 Weeks OldApril 19th, 2011 | Posted by in Matthew
I’m such a super proud mummy this week. Matthew rolled over from his back to his tummy! And then he did it again :)
He’d been rolling onto his side for a couple of weeks now, trying trying trying to get over for the last week, so when we were just hanging out at the library after wiggle and rhyme, when I noticed he was over just a bit more than usual. So I kept encouraging him and then presto, he had his bum all the way over. However I’m a tough mummy, so he had to manage to get his arm out from under his body before I’d declare that he had rolled over (well, to other people anyway, to myself the bum was good enough). Next thing, arm out of the way and he was doing tummy time!
After giving big praise and grins to Matthew, called Rob to let him know the good news. Rob being Rob, was happy but was working and therefore busy, so after I hung up the phone I called my Mum to let her know. She understood my excitement much more.
Also went along to coffee group just afterwards and had to brag a little. I did announce that I was bragging only because I was super happy and wanted to share my happiness with everyone. In all sincereness I wasn’t trying to show off (so I’m really sorry if it came across that way), for me it was just the fact that he had been trying to get over for a few weeks now and Matthew had finally managed that final obstacle.
I’m also a 21st century mummy, so as this final part was happening I grabbed my phone and recorded Matthews first time rolling over. I did only manage to get the end though, but it’s good enough for me. (You’ll have to excuse my voice, as above, I was in the quiet library and wanted to yell with joy)
Rob has been back at work now full time for a couple of weeks. And it’s not that hard to admit that I’d prefer us to be super rich and not have to work so we could both be home full time.
I’ve found that being at home with only Matthew is slightly harder than I thought it would be. With having Rob at home, there was the luxury of being able to forget the muslin cloth when I was feeding, or being tired so he would occupy Matthew while I had a sleep. Now I need to make sure that I have everything before sitting down and just suck it up and bleary eyed wait until Matthew falls asleep. But both Rob and I have been super lucky that he could take those first few months off work and wouldn’t change any of that. I’m sure next time (if there is a next time, still getting through this one) if Rob is unable to take the time off it’s going to be a hell of a lot harder.
Between Rob and myself, we have a number of nicknames for Matthew. I do need to make a conscious effort some days to call him Matthew because I want him to learn at some point what his name is. But as part of the reason I keep this weekly blog is so in the future I will be able to remember things, some of Matthews nickanmes include:
Superman – After a big feed, especially when he has fallen asleep, when I go to lift Matthew up he stretches his arms riiight out in front, just like Superman. He also keeps his legs tucked in and crossed, which makes for a super cute pose.
Goblin Face – Matthews crying face reminds me of one of the goblins off Lord of the Rings. In fact, while in Birthcare I used to sing Poker Face with using the words Goblin Face. Yes, this is the mean nickname I have for him, and only use it when he’s crying.
Monkey – I think this is a pretty common nickname for children. But he’s got his daddys ears which stick out slightly and no hair, totally looks like a monkey, and i’m sure that soon enough he’ll be climbing into and over everything as well.
Poopoo bum, stinky face, spilly guts etc – All the other names I call him when he’s nice enough to share his farts and meals with me :) I really do love him I promise!
